New Orleans Restaurant Week is a foodie holiday
Just off vacation in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Drue and I are
more than willing to do our fair share of dining out during the second annual
We Live to Eat: Louisiana Seafood Restaurant Week. Let’s face it. The food in
paradise just didn’t measure up.
Delayed by a full day and half for our trip to St. John
because of Hurricane Isaac, we were so excited to get up that Saturday and head
to the airport hours early to bask in their air conditioning. What followed was
a long trip there and back, bookending three days of beach hopping, driving on
wickedly winding roads and being asked by everyone we encountered, “Where are
you two from?”
The food in paradise was marginal and the drinks were weak.
We don't think those Painkillers would have ever lived up to their name. But we come from New Orleans. We have extremely high standards for our cuisine and
our libations, and what we consider good food. Between hunkering down and vacation, I need a foodie holiday. Here
we come Restaurant Week!
So far, the girls at the office and I will hit Ruth’s Chris
in Metairie for lunch this Friday. Drue and I will celebrate the 13th
Anniversary of our first date on Saturday with lunch at Commander’s Palace. Originally,
I was thinking a nice Saturday night out, but forgot about the LSU game. He
doesn’t ask for much.
We are scheduling a double date with another couple on
Thursday evening, which has yet to be determined. How will we decide? And then there are the rest of week’s meals.
